The actors are successfully spawned however, because they are in a random location they are not necessarily where the player currently is so further research is needed to ensure spawning is limited to the proximity of the track and where the player is located. I have also used another really helpful YouTube tutorial to spawn actors. The user has to press the p button to pause the game and screen turns opaque as without this feature it isn’t easy to tell if the game is paused or not. It is likely at some point during the game the user may need to pause it, recognising this I have implemented this ability. I will need to investigate the timer further and I am yet to decide on a time limit for each lap as with each lap the time limit will decrease. The timer displays on the game screen in a non obtrusive way however, the number isn’t displayed. I have created a timer using the tutorial on YouTube below. I have used the top down racing kit on Stencyl as a basis for my game which has allowed me to see the features my game needs to include I have also looked at tutorials on Stencyl’s website and on YouTube for further help. I have made quite a bit of progress since my post 2 weeks ago I have progressed past creating game elements and am now exploring how the game will fit together in Stencyl. I was not sure of how to create a button on Stencyl but I managed to find a really helpful video on YouTube and I found that creating a button was really simple and quick to do! I also wanted the button created to look professional so I found a video on YouTube which allowed me to create a professional looking button in Photoshop CS5. I also plan to display the points gained on both screens. On both screens I have created a button players can press to play the game again if the button is selected they are taken to level one. The layout is quite basic with text specifying the loss or win. Adding this border has made steering a lot easier in time I am hoping to implement a feature where points are deducted if a player leaves the main part of the track but for now I am happy with the progress made.Īnother aspect of the game I have developed is a win screen and game over screen. As I am using the top down racing kit on Stencyl I have used the graphics on there for the track border. Similarly, loading a save file will overwrite the running games Game Attributes and replace them with the values of. All you have to do is structure your game such that anything you want to save is stored in Game Attributes. Our saving system uses a game’s Game Attributes to save data. One comment made was regarding the track saying that it is too narrow to be able to successfully steer the car around it. Saving progress is a fundamental part of most games. Some of the comments made I was already aware of for example, the fact that the timer doesn’t work properly and there being no point system or an official end to the game. Yesterday (Tuesday), I was able to find out the feedback that people had given me I have found this really useful and will be able to use this information as a basis for what I should be doing next. It was really interesting to see the kinds of games my class mates had made. On Monday (4th March) as a group we played each others games and reviewed them. I am looking forward to seeing all the levels come together!! Hopefully there isn’t much left to do in order to complete the game. There will also be a greater number of obstacles prohibiting the player. I am going to create 3 other levels which will have a different time limit. I am going to give the player the option to do the test lap if they want to they can always skip to the 1st level but the rest have to be completed as normal in order to complete the whole game. It is likely the problem is as simple as with my regions problem but having done some thought I don’t think the level selector is the best option for my game. I have done some research into creating a level selector…I found a tutorial on Stencylpedia ( ) however, I have failed to get this working. I am also going to have a lap which is not timed where the player can get used to the course. I have also set a time limit if the player does not complete the course in a certain time they will be taken to the game over page. It took me quite a while but actually only about 2 lines of Stencyl code I couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working for ages but then found it was just because I had not selected the region for this behaviour once this was sorted it started to work perfectly! Now I feel that I am actually able to move and get the work done for tomorrow as I had aimed to do. Parent. Finally after what seemed like an eternity I’ve set up my game so when the player enters a certain region they are taken to the win page. That will get you a basic preloader, albeit one without a progress bar.
